Feeling fatigued from a long lasting game the week before, the 1s could’ve been understandly fearful about playing a team with a Cowdrey in it after last season. After a willage varm up including bean bags the skip was equally willage losing the toss- meaning that we were batting first on a pitch that looked like Jimmy Lyons had been digging holes in all week.

After a strong start by Benjani and Jimmy J, the Heath innings collapsed. Pat, Jake and my bro all going back to yorkers after watching Spuds leave last week. Faisal stuck about to score a pleasant 35 before the Westwood pair of Michael Aldred and Jimbo Lyons stamped the Heath’s authority on the game. Never has a partnership of 18 been so critical, a 360 degree threat to spectators with hard hats spotted all around the ground. Jimbo got bored and ditched me though, so tasked with shepherding Spud, orphan Aldred nursed the strike, before falling wictim to their umpires wision.

Plastered from Guinness and Salted Caramel brownies at tea, the Heath staggered out to defend a modest 127. Perhaps we have found the formula as we were immense. Taking the oppo from 50-1 to 77-8, Faisal tore up with a 5fer. But in times of struggle after a strong 9th wicket partnership, to quote Bonnie Tyler the Heath were holding out for a hero. Enter the double act of McCann and Moore. McCann bowling a short ball, safe hands Moore snaffling it at square leg! The game poised again, one wicket to win, 10 runs to win. Jimmy J, potentially more interested in the curvy body at point, decided to make it nervy bowling wide after wide. But he was to have the last laugh, snicking off their number 11, Patrice taking the catch to shouts of ‘bed time kid’ to seal a memorable 1 run win for the Heath!
