1st XI vs Kings Hill

Another rain soaked Saturday saw the game reduced to 37 overs a side. Winning the toss and batting first looked a bad idea when we were 10-2 inside 5 overs. Seeing the side in trouble both George and Jake came together buckled down, grinded the opposition bowlers to put on respectable 56 runs partnership. Just when things were looking good with Ciaran supporting Jake and trying to build another partnership Jake fell on 46 with score just passed 100 around 30th Over. Pat finding it hard to hit past 30 yards circle (let alone to the boundary) found a perfect ally in Irfan (our new recruit) and put on a priceless 44 runs partnership in no time.

We knew chasing 165 at the Heath will be challenging and were confident going to defend the score. Early breakthrough were crucial, after getting hit for back to back 6’s Irfan came back strongly and removed the opener with near perfect Yorker (LBW) and bowled well in partnership with our other recruit Umar, who also bowled well and picked an early wicket to finish with figures of 7 overs, 3 maidens, 1 wicket for 12 runs. At the stage Kings Hill batsmen were struggling to get grips with good bowling and tight fielding. We knew keeping it tight in the middle overs will result in wickets and they fell in regular intervals. Decent run out from Pat, and good catches from Irfan, Umar and Charlie. Resulted in a comfortable win for us.
MoM – Irfan for 42 runs in 12 balls (5 sixes) and 2 wickets.
Other mentions – Alex for a decent spell 7 overs, 3 maidens, 3 wickets for 17 runs.
Fine of the Day – Chris McCann for picking up more wickets than Alex.
