1st XI vs Old Colfes

Saturday saw the 1’s complete their first full 50 over game of the season against Old Colfeians as they entered a stretch of winnable games that could go a way to deciding how the season pans out.

The day started well with the skipper winning the toss and deciding to bat first. A strong opening 50 partnership followed, the first of the season, before a trio of quick wickets brought colfes back into the game. Jake and Umar carried on the run rate before Jake fell leaving us 120-4 at drinks. Ciaran and Pat were both bowled shortly after drinks leaving us with an uphill battle to bat the overs however Umar became the first 1’s player to raise his bat for 50 this season and with the help of Iffy and Chimp, we managed to reach 262-9 off of 50 with even Soud managing 10 fantasy points with 4*.

Mama McCann’s teas followed and we set about defending our best score of the season. 4 early wickets put us in prime position to do that. Iffy set about mopping up the top order despite his ego hit when Ciaran stood up to him for his final over. Umar and Spud both picked up. A few overs drifted by until we picked up a run out with the final ball before drinks leaving Colfes 6 down and needing a monumental effort to claim the 18 points. Jimmy J, Monkey and Chimp returned after drinks to claim the final 4 wickets and give us another 18 points.

The game was followed by fine roulette with Ciaran and Wiseo competing against Jake and Chimp in a piggy- back race. With jake and chimp not managing to stay on their feet, Ciaran and Wiseo strolled to victory to avoid FOTW. With another strong bowling and fielding performance (despite a couple of drops), and the batting starting to click, the 1’s are looking forward to a nice stretch of games that can be used to map out their way to the top of the league.
