BHCC 1st XI vs Catford Wanderers

After a strong team performance against Cowdrey, Bexleyheath were well aware of the challenge that faced them in a Catford Wanderers team who had not had a great start to the season.

Bexleyheath bowed in the first innings, and showed a strong start once again with Iffy taking the first wicket with the total at just 13. The second wicket partnership of 100 meant that the visitors were threatening to set a sizeable total.

With the bowlers working as hard as they could gain wickets on a hit Saturday afternoon, Catford were able to accumulate 226 runs before they were all out in 49.2 overs. This was a total that would be a challenge to chase, but were relatively happy that we were able to restrict them after they start they had.

After a short break between innings, the Heath chase couldn’t have started any worse with Hamish getting caught first ball. After a slight rebuild by George Monk and Ali Barker, Ali was caught (for the second time…) at mid off. A few partnerships looked promising during the innings, the common denominator being George Monk. Who was eventually run out for 47.

Two other notable innings that helped Bexleyheath in their chase were Mike ‘Boom Boom’ Barker and Charlie Monk. Mike reached his maiden 1st XI 50, with Charlie trying to guide the team home with a very solid 21*.

As a result of wickets falling cheaply throughout the innings, Heath fell 10 runs short of the required total.

A frustrating result for the team, but some positives to take from it nonetheless.
