1s vs Old Colfes

The 1st team made the short trip to the picturesque Horn Park to take on Old Colfe’s with the knowledge that promotion or relegation was as likely as Ali Barker converting a start (1 in 10).

Rimish lost yet another toss and we were put into bat on a challenging deck, with the forecast looking increasingly damp. Following an intense warm up of high quality football, Jack managed to lock half the team out of the changing room so Spud decided to return the favour and lock Jack in for a time out for his childish behaviour.

Pat & Jake fell early meaning that skipper Rimish had to stop collecting fox poo from the outfield and actually bat… this didn’t last long however as he decided to spoon a catch to point leaving the Heath 26-3. Whilst George Monk ground out a single an over, wickets continued to fall around him. Jack Aldred (on 1s debut) fell into a test match field trap, Ciaran ‘finisher’ Smyth missed a full toss & Mike ‘Shot a ball’ Barker caught at mid off… 66-6 and in a deep hole.

George & Grantleigh resurrected the batting lineup with a 50 partnership, however with a rain delay imminent G fell to the final ball before rain arrived. The tail fell cheaply following the delay meaning that the Heath had to defend a well below par 131 to secure an unlikely victory.

Iffy started the defence with 2 early wickets to give the side (including naturally negative Jake) a sniff of an unlikely victory. The wickets continued to fall with Spud persuading Senior McCann to give a decision in our favour for the first time this season. The best was yet to come however from Chris McCann, with him giving his best impression of a Bobby Firmino “no look” stumping decision to remove their overseas batsman. An outstanding full toss from G deceived the batsman & umpire all ends up with Chris looking in the trees where the ball should have been dispatched to, but still managed to decide that their batsman had gone walkabouts. The decision was certified with Chris asking the team “what happened” when the batsman was walking off!

Unfortunately 131 was too small a total to defend and Colfes were eventual winners by 5 wickets. A disappointing performance, with wickets thrown away at crucial stages. 5 games left this season to try and finish as high as possible and set a platform for 2022.

Fine of the week - Spud for locking Jack Aldred in the changing rooms
