Awesome scoreline

After last week’s monsoon that caused not only the 2’s game to be abandoned but around 4 others in the county, we turned up to Old Wilsonians ready to kickstart this year’s promotion push! With the skipper willing to play this game as it was away from home (no grafting available), he, among others knew that whatever happened during the game they would be in for major fines, aka Fella, Rocky, Middle Monk.

After losing the toss, Neil and Ben set about creating a platform for us to launch from with power hitters down the order (Myself and Monkey)! Flying along at around 5’s we reached 75-0 from 16 overs and then both Neil and John decided to go back and kick it off middle. Monkey and Ben went about their jobs superbly and got us to just over 100-2 at drinks. After breaking his own bat, Ben decided not to use mine and kick it onto his stumps to leave the field for a well made 66. Monkey was very unlucky not to clear the boundary and was caught just inside the ring for his 30. The skipper and Rav pushed the score along to around 200. Rav was then bowled for another well made 30. Shuk came in and was run ragged but him and ayth assisted the skip in pushing the score onto an above par 277-8!

After taking tea, we set about defending our score. H was his usual tight self only going at 4’s for his 10 overs and burgling a wicket in there. Fella decided that he wouldn’t try and hit the stumps and allow their bats to stand on Neil’s toes at square leg and carve him over the off side. Bill started with 4 consecutive wides but dragged it back well during his spell. Chimp kept it tight throughout his spell and picked up wickets just after drinks to put us in the driving seat. One of their bats then decided he was gonna have a go and launched young monk for a couple of very big sixes. Enter Middle Monk. Set on not being outdone by his younger sibling, he was then smashed for a huge six to which an excited crowd chanted ‘see ya’! Having got the bat stumped next ball, Monkey decided to harness his inner Billy Hally and give the bat a send off whilst trying to start a fight with the rest of the oppo’s players. Chimp then picked up the last three wickets to finish with a well deserved 5fer.

A good performance from the team to kickstart our season and our push for div 1. Onto next week against Colfes.

MotM: Chimp - Well deserves 5fer and a couple of catches

Fine of the Week - Myself - Calling a game off to apparently ‘Graft’
