Steve won the toss again thanks to Paul Hally’s lucky £1 coin, decided to bat first and Heath 3s faced arguably an opponent’s best bowling attack of the season so far from the Old Wilsonians 4 young bowlers, but this didn’t stop us posting a more than enough 163 for 5 at tea, this was made up with everyone else of the top 7 chipping in around an outstanding knock from Ben Moore. I won’t lie and say it wasn’t without a bit of luck and help from a couple of spills from the Old Wils fielders, but what Ben did do was stick it out on an unpredictable BGS wicket. He showed single mindedness determination of the task ahead, and his resolve was rewarded with an unbeaten 87 runs. Steve’s tea-time talk to his bowlers was an easy one, “We have a heap of runs to play with, get into you rhythm and enjoy the carnage”, and carnage it was, as one by one the Old Wilsonians batsmen came in and went down swinging, no match for Billy Hally’s guile and cunning, who picked up 3 wickets, but it was Nick Parnham, who produced a spell like the ones that helped him pick up last season’s league bowling award. His 7 overs was a masterpiece in tempo and precision and this was remunerated with a ‘five-for’ just 7 meagre runs, only the forced bowling change stopped these two to a full house, but this allowed Ryan Frisby to pick up a couple of cheap wickets to dismiss the oppo for just 41 runs in only 17.1 overs. This win leaves the 3rd eleven top of their league, but next week starts a run of 4 games against teams in the top half of the division, hopefully this will put us to the test us a bit more than this weeks adversaries managed. There was a lot of pressure to give Nick P the man of the match honour, but I’m sorry to upset his followers as I sit back with tin-hat on, but it just goes to Ben Moore for a much needed confidence boosting knock, as runs are a little bit more of a premium on the grammar school wicket.
