Match report written by Ryan Frisby

After no game last week, the 3s welcomed Burgess Park to Foots Cray rugby club looking to bounce back from defeat two weeks ago. Having won the toss, Dave put Burgess Park into bat who came out with real intent, looking to be proactive from ball one. Just as it looked that the oppo were getting on top, Ryan and Alijan bowled a series of tight overs, creating pressure and culminating in Burgess Parks opening bat chopping on off the bowling of Ryan for our first wicket. A couple of overs later, Dave threw the ball to H, and could not have asked for a better start, nicking off the other opener into the safe hands of Meggsy in his first over. H thought he had another in his next over. A carbon copy dismissal, Burgess park’s umpire appeared to be the only one on the field who didn’t notice the edge. From this moment, the game swung firmly in the way of the visitors and they began to regularly find the boundary. Two late wickets from H and Sulove couldn’t stem the flow of runs and Burgess Park finished 204-4 off of their 40 overs.
Heading into our innings we knew we were going to have to bat well to have any chance to win the game and things didn’t get off to the best start when Nelly was trapped LBW for 2 in just the second over. Sulove and Dave both followed in the next couple of overs for 2 and 9 respectively and we found ourselves 3 down with less than 30 on the board. Ryan and Meggsy began to rebuild but when they both fell for 14 and 20 respectively, it was going to take something special to keep us in the game. Hari (20) and Amit (25) provided some resistance, but when both of their wickets in quick succession, out fate was effectively sealed. Martin tried to blast us back in contention to no avail and when Tom was bowled for 4 we were bowled out for 120 off of 30 overs.
Overall and indifferent performance from the 3s but there were some promising signs, which hopefully point to us getting back to winning ways next week.
