Wickham Park

This week summer arrived finally and under blue skies we headed off to Wickham Park for a mid table clash. We won the toss and chose to bowl. We started very well with a great opening spell from Jonker and Alijan kept the runs low and at drinks they had less than 60 on the board. Some hard yards had to be put in after the drinks interval and spells from Mitch, Matt, Bash and VJ kept them to 163. Some very economical bowling from VJ at the death deserves special mention.

Opening our innings were Steve and Ganny. They took the shine off the ball before seeing off the first 5 overs. Joe and skip then got themselves in and started to chase the total down with some very sensible batting. Sticking 90 runs on the board with an over before Drinks. A rush of blood meant the skip chipped one to cover. Bash and Ryan followed quickly after and we were starting to look on shaky ground when Jonker went out to bat. Witnessing 5 Jonker defensive shots and a lovely cover drive on the ground we were starting to think that the Jonks had had some lessons and changed his batting style. However, two sixes into the houses (and one one broken roof tile) showed that he had been toying with us. Another rush of blood saw Joe dismissed with a very respectable and sensible 45 but VJ and Jonker saw us home. Jonks scoring 54 off 29 balls.

A great display by the team. Bowlers had to dig deep and batsmen had to stay composed but victory was ours and with only one loss this season we are getting better every game.
