1st match of the season goes ahead at last

Saturday saw the 4th XI away to OD Cuaco. We won the toss and having
seen the power of our bowling line up decided to try and skittle the
oppo for less than 120. All was going swimmingly with Felicio seeing
off the 1st bat for 4 and Tibbsy seeing off number 2 for 9. Bat 3 had
a stab at staying put but master spinner tom Frisby took both him and
bat 4. One of the wickets saw Joe take an all action stumping and was
in the action again swiftly taking a great catch (his only one of the
day) off mr Tibbs to see off bat 5. Number 6 and 7 came to the crease
with 64 on the board and stood firm for a 126 partnership. Best laid
plans and all that!!! Felicio finally broke the partnership with his
second wicket at 38 overs and between him and Bash Khan removed the
rest of the order in about 15 balls. All out 208.

The track was a decent batting strip so we weren’t over worried as the
total was definitely in our reach. Skipper and Bash K opening the
batting and had one thing on their minds as they walked to the crease,
hit the bad ball and defend the good. Bash blocked the first 10 balls
he faced and then proceeded to smash 6’s for fun scoring a rapid fire
28 (as he was leaving the crease the opposition skipper was heard
commenting “we didn’t expect that!!”). Hari and Danny remained at the
crease and built a solid 93 run partnership before the skipper was
FINALLY given LBW of a leg spinner going down the leg side . Hari
and Wilksey continued the pace - Steve scoring 17 runs off 12 balls
before falling LBW again. George Curran, Matt Wilson Vijay all played
supporting roles while Hari continued the pace and we were looking
good for a classic victory with 188 for 7 off 35. Joe, whose keeping
prowess had been too much headed to the crease and then promptly
walked straight back after a golden duck. Tom Frisby headed out and
racked up 10 off 7 with two cracking fours and it was looking
comfortable. Hari hurtling down the track to finish the game sadly got
caught on 208 off 37. Both sides at this point on 208. Tibbs is at the
crease and with Tom on fine form and only one run needed to win it was
in the bag....... before Tom got himself bowled. 1 run still needed
with only one wicket left. Felicio to the crease with one instruction:
don’t get out!!! Thankfully a delicate little shot saw us safely home
with a victory in the bag, some quality bowling, fielding and batting
from our team and a not out for Jamie Tibbs without facing a single
ball!!

Quality performance and a nail biting game for all our spectators.
