I am going to start this match report unusually highlighting a great fielding display.
This is the best I have ever seen Ben keep wicket, a brilliant display of both technique and bravery was excellent to watch. Wicketkeeping on that wicket is never easy, the uneven bounce makes it very hard and to only concede 5 byes is amazing. I have watched how hard he has worked at training and it is really showing. Great work Ben.
The rest of the match went pretty much as we had hoped, Captain Freddie won the boss and chose to bat first, I had asked Musa before the game if he was happy to open the batting today and he jumped at the opportunity. A lightning start from Artharva and Musa saw us post 50 from the first 5 overs. Alfie continued his excellent run with the bat scoring another solid 20 whilst rotating the strike superbly. This allowed the engine room of our batting to strike brilliantly. A classy 28 from Jake and a belligerent 27 from Freddie allowed us to post a very respectable 162.
I have to say that bowling on that wicket is not easy, it's almost impossible to bowl a consistent line and length because no two balls behave the same. I think the lads adapted really well which is reflected in 8 of the wickets being bowled and was backed up with some some solid ground fielding. The highlight was Oliver taking 3 wickets for 10 runs and Jake taking 1 for 0 in two overs and bowling some absolutely unplayable balls.
I also want to mention Freddie, he does a very difficult job with great maturity and no small amount of skill, great work Fred.
We moved forward with another tough fixture away to Bexley on Friday, let's hope the weather behaves.
Great work team
