I have to be honest and say I was quite apprehensive heading into the match, but as usual, this squad of players proved that apprehension was unfounded.
Stand-in skipper won the toss and decided to bat first. Run machine Artharva was joined by new opening partner Vir and they got us off to a scorching start. Artharva hitting a brutal 26 in 8 balls, but then we suffered a hiccup, Vir, unfortunately, Run Out, Nihaal and Skipper Jake both fell cheaply and my apprehension returned big style. No need to worry and what followed was quite amazing to watch, first Musa then James both retiring and both hitting the ball to all parts of the field. still not finished Suchet retired for a very stylish 25 and Neev falling just short on 21. To score 184 in 20 overs is quite simply amazing.
Our bowling and fielding showed a desire and intensity but wickets just would not come. Every bowler bowling well conceding very few runs but those wickets remained elusive.
The team stuck at it and eventually, the wickets came. 2 wickets for Suchet, Sid and Jake meant the opposition finished on 84 for 8.
I thought Aaron's display of wicketkeeping tonight was brilliant, I know it is not his favourite pastime, but he was amazing tonight, although I suspect his hands may be a bit sore in the morning.
A huge thank you to Sid for making his U13A debut tonight and his bowling was a huge help in gaining nearly full bowling points and toSuchet for coming straight to the ground from his holiday, just highlights the dedication the players and parents show to the team.
One more game to go everyone, lets's get this job done. Bring on Bexley tomorrow
