First match of the season

The under 13’s finally began their league campaign against Dartford at home on Thursday. Dartford
batted first and made slow but steady progress with one of their openers retiring on 25. The first
wicket didn’t fall until the eleventh over with a caught and bowled from Joy. The boys continued to
take wickets from then on with Joy picking up another wicket in his next over. The fourteenth over
saw Lewis taking 2 wickets in 2 balls taking the visitors to 60-4, this was followed by a run out from
Zak in the sixteenth. Gunvir bowled the nineteenth over taking 3 wickets meaning the retired opener
came back in. The innings was finished off in the twentieth over with a run out from Will, meaning
Dartford scored 80-9 (they were a player short).
Unfortunately the batting didn’t go so well, with Dartford’s opening bowler taking 4 of our top 5 in
his first 2 overs all without scoring. The boys never recovered from this and were all out for 49 with a
few boundaries from Siddarth, Aashaya and Zak. On the day the boys were beaten by a team that
included a very good Kent player who scored 31 runs and took 4 wickets, without him the game
would have been much closer. Hopefully the boys learned from this game and still enjoyed it even
though they lost.
