Our season continues to be a very steep learning curve for our U13a side. I can honestly say I think we are improving week on week but playing in the top league of the NKJL the opposition is extremely challenging.
Blackheath won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a very strong batting line up but some good bowling supported by probably our best fielding performance of the year restricted them to a very competitive 144. The highlights from the Heath were a great performance behind the sticks from Oliver. His opening catch was brilliant and to round his evening off he took an excellent stumping as well. Our bowling was solid with the extras continuing to be reduced week on week. The spin twins of Charl and Louis really slowed the scoring rate with Charl taking 2 wickets and Louie 1 and Charl effecting a great runout of his own bowling. I think a mention is deserved for Aidan who was extremely supportive throughout the innings, always vocal in his efforts to keep the concentration of the team high on a very hot evening and leading by example in his ground fielding.
Again our batting proved all to fragile in the face of some very accurate and at times hostile bowling. The main highlight being a very cultured 22 from Louis, never looking in any trouble until a ball that didnt really bounce.
The team are working so hard as a group to improve and anyone who witnessed the training session on Monday will appreciate how hard they are trying. Some players even coming straight from school matches to attend training which I think says a lot for there commitment to the team.
We have another tough assignment next week away to Bromley but I know they will always give me 100% effort and as a coach I cant ask for anymore.
