U15a Match Report (Adam Mawdsley)
The Under 15s lost their second game of the season on Sunday against Sidcup. The reasons for this were:
1. I lost the toss meaning we had to bat in cloudy conditions with a wet outfield. This meant we got about 25 fewer runs than we needed;
2. We had a caught behind decision turned down against Sidcup’s best batsman when they were about 10-2. All the Bexleyheath players thought it was out but crucially not the opposition umpire;
3. We dropped too many catches.
After losing Anghad in the first over, me and Lewis put on a partnership of 72 for the second wicket. Lewis batted very well and scored lots of runs by cleverly running the ball down to third man. Chris W had broken my bat in the nets on Saturday morning with his express throw downs and so I had to borrow Martin Jonker’s bat for the game. This immediately turned me into a power hitter and I finished on 37, getting out trying to advance the run rate. Some good running from Rishab and Sadun meant Sidcup needed 96 to win.
Their innings started with a maiden first over from Tom before Rishab got batsman 1 and 2 in one over.
Unfortunately we allowed Sidcup batsmen 3 and 4 to build a partnership with the next wicket falling at 84 runs leaving very little for the remaining batsmen to do.
We bowled well but dropped too many catches which ultimately cost us the game.
