Well not really the way we wanted to end the season for some of the boys, getting soaked, but strangely enough they seemed to enjoy it!!!
Having picked two well balanced sides the weather decided to turn for the worse but the game went on. The two captains Charl and Louie tossed up and the 11A side asked the 11B's to bat first.
The 11A's batted solidly throughout there innings, the highlights being another retired not out for Jake with 21, captain dependable Louie again 21 not out, and Johnny and Oliver H being retired on 10 and 12 respectively. Two other things to mention, two shots of the day from Alfie and Johnny, Alfie with a stunning drive smashed through the covers like a bullet and Johnny with a brilliant pull shot through midwicket.
The 11B's got off to a scorching start, Artharava hitting my shot of the day, a cracking drive, but bowler Oliver M was to get his own back, a gentle away swinger tempted Artharava again but this time it produced an outside edge brilliantly caught by Oliver H.
Captain Charl arrived at the wicket and produced another solid powerful innings ending up retired on 20. A superb innings from Ryley kept the innings going with some excellent running between the wickets and he was finally retired not out on 18. After that the 11A's bowlers took control. The highlights being Oliver M taking 3 for 10 and Teddy with 1 for 10.
Although they were all soaked and no doubt cold the team spirit and sportsmanship was evident throughout the game. This was highlighted by one of the kindest and most thoughtful pieces of sportsmanship i have witnessed in a long time. Deacon who was playing his first hard ball match and is only a MS8 was bowled first ball. Captain Charl immediately called out that he should be given a second chance and came up with the idea of younger players cant be out first ball. For me that summed up this group of players and how they have played this season. I am very proud to have coached them all this year.
