Our first away game of the 2023 season saw us visit an immaculate but damp Farningham CC. Bexleyheath won the toss and decided to bowl first, the early overs saw our bowlers in fine form, picking up wickets as early as the second ball of the match. Bowled wickets achieved by Ollie (2), Musa and with a further run out from James and a catch from Ollie, brilliantly bowled from Vir.

The team tried to stick to their familiar lines of direct bowling but were unable to keep clean figures with a flurry of wides and no balls which gave away 60 extras. Despite this The Heath displayed magnificent resolve and fielded well with great backing up of each other. Highly impressive sportsmanship was show to each batsman and were treated to, what is becoming a trademark of this group, a fine run out from a direct hits and catches. A little more 'on-the-toes' fielding would have resulted in more wickets though.

With the target set and weather set against both teams, our opening pair batted with great maturity. Defending the good balls and punishing anything loose with classy shots and purposeful running, our first wicket stand of the season was set (21). James and Musa gaining several boundaries between them. The drive to keep the scoreboard ticking was sustained by each batsman in the face of persistent line and length bowling from the opposition, but ultimately the gallant effort fell short by 29 runs.
